The Social Justice Committee serves as the hands and feet and voice of Christ through its active commitment to compassionate caring in our local community.
In 2019 the SJC explored the social issues most pressing to our local community and decided to highlight three: Immigration support, Environmental Justice, and LGBTQ equality. Some of the things we accomplished in 2019 include:
- Hosting a booth at Arroyo Grande Pride
- Hosting a booth at Central Coast (SLO) Pride
- Introducing the congregation to the Sustain Island Home app, an online resource that offers strategies for reducing our carbon footprint.
- Adding announcements to the congregation’s online newsletter, the Weekly E, with tips for reducing our negative impact on the environment.
- Writing an inclusive Welcome Statement that was added to our congregation’s website.
- Crafting a statement of support for the 5 Cities Homeless Coalition.
- Creating homeless services resource cards that the congregation could use and pass out in the local community.
