Summaries and Minutes of the Vestry Meetings

Summary of October 13, 2014 Vestry Meeting

The Vestry met on October 13 at 6pm in Library. Rev. Greenwood opened the meeting with a short study of the Gospel reading for the upcoming Sunday, Matthew 22:15-22 . The text focuses on the conversation that Christ had with the disciples and the Herodians about taxes. As we know, Jesus’ response is “Give therefore to the emperor the things that are the emperor’s, and to God the things that are God’s”. The Vestry discussed how this reading applied to general life, church life, etc. It was a great discussion and we looked forward to hearing what Fr. Turner would preach on in the upcoming Sunday.

The meeting moved through opening business, discussing some outstanding Vestry issues, and the Committee chairs. At this time, two Vestry members have taken leaves of absence due to some health issues, and we are looking for a new chair of the Finance Committee, since the previous chair, David Loomis, has passed away. At this time, Jason Manville will chair the Finance Committee until a new chair is identified. David Beard shared a new document, which solidifies the process around the memorial garden and burials and provided an update on the Landscape Master Plan.

The Discernment Committee shared that they are in what they believe are the final stages of drafting the Parish Profile, and hope to share it with the Vestry soon.  They reminded us that the process is that it is reviewed and approved by the Vestry, it then goes to the Bishop’s office for approval, and then it becomes “live” for the search process. At that time, it will be posted on various websites.

We concluded the meeting with the Treasurers report, and reports from the Sr. Warden and Jr. Warden. The meeting concluded at 7:49pm.

Summaries will be posted following each Vestry meeting, with approved minutes posted once they have been approved (the month following the meeting).

September 2014 Vestry Meeting (posted 10/14/14).

The Vestry met on September 8 at 6pm in Library. Rev. Greenwood opened the meeting with a short study of Matthew 18:21-35. The text focuses on forgiveness and when Jesus told Peter to forgive seventy-seven times. The ensuing conversation focused around forgiveness in many aspects of life, including how it contributes to the health of the Vestry and the Church. Following this twenty minute study, the business component of the Vestry meeting began.

The Discernment Committee chairs provided an update on their current status. The goal is to have the profile completed in October. Care is being taken to consider all the feedback being shared by the members of the parish through the parish-wide meetings, the surveys, and the feedback gathered during coffee hour. There were several other topics discussed during the meeting. Those included; the Thrift Shop floors, request for funds and details around that project. Additional time was spent discussing weed abatement and the landscape master plan, as well as Stewardship and the upcoming Ministry Fair in October.

We concluded the meeting with the Treasurers report, and reports from the Sr. Warden and Jr. Warden. Other reports that were filed by title include the Financial Secretary, Sunday School and Thrift Shop. The meeting concluded at 7:48pm.

Summaries will be posted following each Vestry meeting, with approved minutes posted once they have been approved (the month following the meeting).
